Repair of Heavy Damaged FPP

Repair of Heavy Damaged FPPRepair of Heavy Damaged FPP

Description of work

Fixed Pitch Propeller of the small passenger craft was damaged by impact against the ice, during the winter navigation in Baltic Sea. Propeller Parameters: Diameter 1680 mm, Weight 400 kg. Propeller Material – Ni-Mn Brass, upon IACS classification material Cu2.
Due to severe impact propeller lost its geometry, ends were bended and partially missing.

Repair was done by combined hot straightening, tips cropping and replacement-by welding methods. All blades were subjected to stress relief Post Weld Heat Treatment for the purpose of repair stresses relief. Final machining was done after repair, followed by normal polishing (Rubert scale B). Propeller pitch was measured after repair and pitch deviations were calculated and evaluated by using ISO standard requirements.

Repair has taken 10 calender days from detail arrival to workshop up to the shipment back to the Ship. New propeller manufacturing time was established as app. 4 Month since PO. Repair price was abt 40% from the cost of NEW propeller. So within this project we were able to offer a cost effective repair solution.

After sale

Propeller was installed to the Ship immediately after repair. Currently in operation.
